Music always starts with love.
It begins and ends on this note.. The Amours sing, perform, and captivate with an endless
amount of ardor. As a result, the Washington, D.C. sister duo of Jakiya Ayanna and Shaina
Aisha immediately enchant every time they step up to a microphone together. Locked into a
fresh and focused familial harmony, they breathe a soulful spirit into R&B on each and every
song they sing.
Born and raised in the D.C. Metropolitan Area, the girls immersed themselves in music at a
young age. Jakiya later gravitated towards musical theater, and Shaina played guitar and sang.
They were also involved in several artist development programs growing up like the DC Youth
Ensemble, Arlington Youth Street Theater and attended the prestigious Duke Ellington School of
the Arts, where they received rigorous classical training and simultaneously developed a
heightened understanding of the world around them shaped by their city.
In 2014, the girls made the decision to formally launch The Amours. They went from performing
at countless local open mic nights, showcases and several events around Washington to
trending on social media for viral Instagram harmony videos which led to them landing their first
big gig. In 2017, the sisters caught the attention of artist and producer PJ Morton after adding
harmony to a cover he posted online. The Amours spent two and a half years on the road as
part of PJ’s backing band and performed on the GRAMMY® Award-winning Gumbo Unplugged
album. Simultaneously, they honed a heartfelt and hypnotic sound of their own equally “tasteful,
soulful, and authentic.”
After signing to Morton Records in August 2018, The sound comes to life on the duo’s debut
single “All The Time.” Acclaimed straight out of the gate by Okayplayer and YouKnowIGotSoul.
On April 26, 2019 , The Amours released their debut EP “ Mon Amour “. Following the release
of “ Mon Amour “ the Amours went off to do an acoustic co headline tour w/ PJ, had their
Essence Festival debut and landed their first tour as an opener for Tobe Nwigwe’s “ The Ivory
Tour “. In December 2019, The Amours parted ways with Morton Records due to mutual
creative differences.
After a three-year hiatus, The highly anticipated release of the R&B love duo ‘The Amours’
dropped on January 20, 2023, via Hardcover Entertainment in partnership with November
Yellow, The Camp & Venice Music. The ladies have been hitting the ground running with their
singles ‘Don’t Deserve’, ‘I met You’ and most recently ‘JK I Love You” from their upcoming EP
‘Changes’ produced by DJ Camper & Executive Produced by famed songwriter turned
executive Harold Lilly Jr.
The close-knit harmonies, signature Amour’s arrangements and warm R&B vibes will have you
screaming what you ‘Don’t Deserve’ even if you’re getting what you do.
From touring as supporting vocalist, being a part of Grammy Award winning records and
delivering harmony all over the world. The Amours are destined to leave a mark of greatness.
