York Street Hustle Holiday Spectacular
York Street Hustle is back by popular demand and bringing their 11th annual Holiday Spectacular to World Cafe Live! Stomp your feet, shake your hips, and catch the spirit of the season with a special mix of Motown & Stax holiday classics, 60s soul hits, and B-sides by Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, Otis Redding, Nina Simone, Al Green, Gladys Knight, the Jackson Five, and many more.

Each week, ten musicians arrive at a former South Philadelphia funeral home where, one by one, they unload their old tube amps and vintage gear. Once inside, the classic sounds of the 1960s are reinvigorated, re-energized and reborn. Legends, like Stevie, Aretha and the Four Tops; lesser-known artists including Donny Hathaway, Arthur Conley and Betty Everett – all are given new life. In a few short years the York Street Hustle has gone from filling tiny South Street bars to repeated sell outs of World Cafe Live. Their repertoire now spans over 80 songs including more than a decade worth of Detroit, Memphis and Chicago soul. This is not your typical Motown wedding band. With grit, sweat, and attention to detail, The York Street Hustle is the Northeast’s premier 10-piece 1960s soul tribute.
Born in Philadelphia, music was calling Tanqueray Haywardʼs name from a very early age. Getting her first taste for the musical spotlight, Hayward started singing in church. Like many legendary singers before her, most notably: Whitney Houston, Patti LaBelle, and Aretha Franklin, the church provides the basics for soul singers when learning breath control, tone and confidence. Hayward has indeed taken notes and passed the class with flying colors. Growing up and finding her voice, Hayward spent many days and nights belting out the songs from her idols, including “Queen of Hip-Hop Soul”- Mary J. Blige, the pioneering gospel group, The Clark Sisters and the iconic gospel music great, the late Mahalia Jackson. After taking a leap of faith and resigning from a medical career, Haywardʼs vocal potency landed her the opportunity to record background vocals for pop star Pink and open for internationally-acclaimed gospel artist Marvin Sapp in Philadelphia. In addition, Hayward has shared the stage with Carol Riddick, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Cedric Napoleon (Pieces of a Dream), Mozaic Flow, Lee Williams and the Spiritual QCʼs, The Joy Boyz and Shawn “Coco” McMillan just to name a few! Currently, Hayward is enjoying the experience of performing to sold-out crowds at renowned music venues throughout Philadelphia. Haywardʼs vocal ability and stage presence are potent for all who dare to experience it without a filter.
